They’re an excellent choice for cyclists tackling unpredictable weather. Important Note: The activation of photochromic lenses depends on the presence of UV rays in the atmosphere. Therefore, in certain situations, the lenses may not activate as expected. Additionally, photochromic lenses do not activate indoors or inside vehicles.
ARE PRESCRIPTION CYCLING SUNGLASSES AVAILABLE?
Yes, prescription cycling sunglasses are available! Scicon Sports offers solutions for vision needs like myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism through clip-on, optical inserts, adapters compatible with single-vision and progressive lenses, even for high prescriptions. CAN I REMOVE SCRATCHES FROM MY SUNGLASSES LENSES?
Unfortunately, scratches on lenses cannot be removed, even if the lenses are high-quality and feature an anti-scratch coating. With constant use, they can still sustain damage. To prevent scratches, we recommend cleaning the lenses with water and mild soap and always storing them in the protective case provided with every pair of Scicon Sports sunglasses.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT LENS COLOR?
Each sports lens is designed for a specific use. The choice of lens depends on the weather conditions in which it will be used. When purchasing, always check the light transmission level and lens category. Bright light conditions: Opt for a lens with low light transmission (15%-20%) and a high category (3). Low light or rainy conditions: Choose a lens with high light transmission (50%) and a low category (1). Scicon Sports offers a wide range of lens colors and light transmission options. Be cautious of companies that simply add their logo to sunglasses made with low-quality materials and cheap lenses to cut costs. Designing sports sunglasses requires expertise, knowledge, know-how, rigorous testing, and compliance with legal standards. Prioritize brands that invest in these areas. However, the responsibility for the mounting and functionality of the prescription lenses lies with the optician, who is the expert in selecting, centering, and adapting the lenses to your specific visual needs. If the optician determines that the insert is not compatible or cannot guarantee optimal results, they may decide not to proceed. Our role is to design and provide a reliable RX insert ready to accommodate prescription lenses, while the optician’s role is to choose and adapt the lenses themselves to ensure optimal fit and functionality. Scicon Sports does not assume any responsibility for visual adaptation issues related to the mounting or selection of lenses by the optician.
SUNGLASSES MAINTENANCE: HOW TO MAKE THEM LAST LONGER?
To ensure the maximum durability and performance of your sports sunglasses, proper maintenance and cleaning after every workout or race are essential. Rinse your sunglasses with lukewarm water to remove dust, sweat, and dirt, avoiding hot water. Use a mild, non-abrasive detergent and avoid paper towels or abrasive materials that might scratch the lenses. Gently dab the lenses with a soft microfiber cloth to prevent streaks or scratches. Once cleaned, store your sunglasses in their protective case to shield them from dust and impacts. By following these steps, your sunglasses will remain in excellent condition, ensuring comfort and optimal performance.
MY OPTICIAN SAYS IT'S NOT POSSIBLE TO FIT PRESCRIPTION LENSES ONTO SPORTS EYEWEAR. IS THAT TRUE?
No, that's not entirely true. The ability to fit prescription lenses on sports eyewear frames depends on the specific model and the technology available. Some models, such as the Scicon Aerojet, allow corrective lenses to be installed directly onto the frame - without the need for internal inserts - offering a highly technical and aesthetically refined solution.
Alternatively, for lighter prescriptions, a removable internal optical insert can be used. This is a practical, affordable, and accessible option, though slightly less effective in terms of visual field and aesthetics.
An optician should also be able to recommend the correct lens color and type based on the sport practiced and the athlete’s visual needs.
Many opticians claim this isn’t possible simply because they lack the necessary equipment or expertise, or they don’t collaborate with laboratories specialized in high-curvature sports frames, technical materials, or shaped lenses. In reality, the limitation is not objective, but technical or commercial - often due to lack of experience in the sports optics sector.
For this reason, it is essential to consult an optician or optometrist with expertise in RX sports optics.

While natural blue light from sunlight is beneficial for regulating the sleep-wake cycle, prolonged exposure to artificial blue light may cause eye strain, headaches, blurred vision, and sleep disturbances. The lenses of my optical insert fog up — how can I reduce this issue?
The optical insert sits between the sunglass lens and your face, limiting airflow; for this reason, fogging may occur if the prescription lenses installed do not feature an anti-fog treatment. To reduce the problem, we recommend asking your optician to apply an anti-fog coating to the insert’s lenses during installation. Alternatively, you can use anti-fog wipes, which are widely available on the market and can be applied when needed.
Why does my lateral field of view seem reduced when using the optical insert?
The optical insert is positioned inside the eyewear, behind the sun lens, and is smaller than the main lens. As a result, the peripheral area of the sun lens does not include optical correction, which may create the perception of a slightly reduced lateral field of view compared to direct prescription sport lenses. This is a common characteristic of all optical inserts: the corrective lens is placed directly in front of your line of sight to ensure sharp vision within the primary visual axis, while the lateral area remains outside the corrected zone. This effect does not compromise performance, but it is important to be aware of it when choosing between an optical insert and corrective lenses mounted on adapters that cover the entire field of view.
